Britigan Named Innovator of the YearLaGrange Park, IL...Coils, condensers and millwork may sound like a male realm, but Marcy Britigan believes she knows how to design and develop those components into floral refrigerators and fixtures that grab shoppers' attention. And Floral Retailing, a leading trade publication, agrees naming her "Innovator of the Year" in its April 2000 issue. Started by Britigan in 1996, today, her company, MEI, provides design services, manufactures its own line of floral refrigerators and fixtures, and does millwork for major supermarket chains and independents across the country. Innovations introduced by MEI include a high-humidity resistant slatwall shelving for floral refrigerators that improves merchandising flexibility, improved interior lighting, and a three-step merchandising display fixture that easily converts to five steps with interior storage space. Britigan displays at the leading supermarket and floral trade shows where she can meet many of the industry's decision makers. She also travels frequently to meet with customers and prospects in their offices and at store sites around the country. When one of the country's leading chains put her specs out for bid to the major refrigeration corporations with which MEI competes, she knew she was on the right track. "We set the standard," she says. Setting the standard has helped Britigan grow MEI in four years into one of the significant vendors in the supermarket and mass merchandising floral fields.
